With the 2016-17 Men’s Series all wrapped up, have a look back at the traditional captain’s photos that were taken at each of the ten stops:

dubai 7S

The 16 teams kicked things off in Dubai, gathering for a photo in front of an epic view of the city.

Cape town 7S

In Cape Town, the teams were overwhelmed by cheering fans at PPC Newlines Cricket Stadium as they took centre field during a Springboks vs Proteas T20 cricket match. They even got to try out the sport

WELLINGTON 7S

The men channeled their inner Lord of the Rings in New Zealand, home of the infamous trilogy. The photo took place at the Weta Workshop. Not only did it feature the sixteen captains, but guest appearances from Gollum and Gandalf too.

Sydney 7S

In Sydney, the players posed in front of two of the most internationally recognized structures: Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

USA 7S

At the USA 7s, the traditional captain’s photo was replaced with the Parade of Nations. The event celebrates the arrival of the teams to Las Vegas. Thousands of fans packed Fremont Street in downtown as all 28 teams (both men and women) marched through the crowd and across the stage.

Canada 7S

The captain’s got an icy reception in Vancouver as they were introduced two by two in front of a stadium full of hockey fans at Rogers Arena before an NHL clash between the Vancouver Canucks and the New York Islanders. Canada’s Harry Jones and South Africa’s Philip Snyman got to partake in the ceremonial puck drop.

Hong kong 7S

Before the legendary Hong Kong 7s, the captains created a vibrant splash of colour in front of a foggy cityscape. The 16 core teams were also joined by an additional 12 captains, who competed in a qualifying tournament for 2017-2018 during the weekend.

Singapore 7S

The theme of the Singapore 7s in 2017 was colour. That theme was reflected in the captain’s photo as the skippers gathered in front of the iconic Merlion Park Lion before a historical weekend that saw Canada win the Cup.

Paris 7S

Paris marked the beginning of the last set of rounds for 2016-17. With the Arc De Triomphe towering in the background, it was only fitting for the captain’s to tip their hats to another phenomenal year of HSBC World Rugby Sevens.

London 7s

At the final stop in London, the captain’s photo took on a unique form. Instead of capturing a photo of the sixteen athletes, an artist rendition was created. The illustration by Steve Simpson draws on the fun, festival atmosphere that the HSBC London Sevens brought to Twickenham.
