VOLUNTEER FAQ’S

Applying to be a volunteer:

Will I have to complete a security background check?

Canada Sevens reserve the right to perform a background check on all volunteers to ensure the safety and security of all our volunteers, fans, players and guests.

Can my family/friends volunteer together?

Yes, we are happy to accommodate requests for volunteers to volunteer in the same team/shifts as family and friends, where possible.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. All volunteers MUST be 16 years old or above.

Selection and Training of Volunteers:

How do I know if I have been selected as a volunteer?

With a limited number of volunteer spots available, Canada Sevens will be reviewing all applications with consideration for previous experience, skill-set and availability. Our Volunteer Manager will be in contact prior to December 21st, to let you know if you been successful in your application to become a volunteer for the 2019 HSBC Canada Sevens event.

Will there be training provided?

An optional Volunteer Orientationsession will take place at BC Place stadium during the week leading up to the event – likely Wednesday 6thMarch from 6pm – 7pm (TBC).

AVolunteer Manualoutlining all-important information about the event and your role will be provided to you approximately one month out from the event.

Uniform:

 Will I be given a uniform?

All volunteers will receive a Canada Sevens branded ¼ zip sweater only.

 What do I need to wear on event day?

Your Canada Sevens branded ¼ zip sweater, black pants and comfy shoes. Bring additional layers, as BC Place stadium can get cold in March

Time Commitment:

 Do I need to volunteer on both Saturday and Sunday?

Yes you do. Volunteers will only be selected if they are available to volunteer for a shift on both days.

How long is my shift?

Between 5-6 hours depending on your role.

What to expect on event day:

Will I be fed and watered?

Yes, absolutely, there will be hot food and hot/cold drinks provided to all volunteers to access during your break. All volunteers will have a 30-minute break during their shift.

Will I be able to watch the rugby sevens games before or after my shift?

Yes, a great benefit of being part of the volunteer team is that your volunteer accreditation will allow you access to the General Admissions seating areas. This will enable you to watch the rugby sevens before or after your shift.

What volunteer roles are available?

Please click on the Volunteer Roles tab to see more information on the different roles available; what you can expect in each role and the type of volunteers we are looking for in these roles.

Can I request a certain volunteer role or be assigned one?

You can highlight your preference for volunteer roles via the online application form. We will try our best to allocate volunteers into their preferred roles where possible. However, all roles need to be filled to ensure a successful event, so we ask volunteers to be accommodating and flexible in their role allocations.

Other important things to know:

Will Canada Sevens cover any volunteer expenses?

No. Canada Sevens will not cover the cost for any expenses incurred by volunteers.

Am I provided with accommodation?

No. Volunteers are not provided accommodation. For those travelling in from outside of Vancouver we recommend staying with family or friends, hostels, Air BnB or at a local hotel.

Is parking available?

No. Parking is not available for volunteers at the stadium. We recommend volunteers use public transport to the get to the stadium or park at a nearby parking location and walk from there

Will there be anything post-event for volunteers?

Yes – the Volunteer Wrap-Up Partywill be organized a few weeks after the event to give us the opportunity to host and thank our volunteer team for all your hard work and support. Details will be sent out prior to March to ensure all volunteers are able to attend.
