HSBC CANADA SEVENS UPDATE

We continue to work hard in preparation for our back-to-back weekends of exciting rugby sevens action in Vancouver and Edmonton!

At this time we are pleased to confirm further details regarding our upcoming events. The following Men’s 7s teams have accepted invitations to the 2021 HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver and Edmonton:

  • South Africa
  • Great Britain
  • France
  • Ireland
  • Kenya
  • Spain
  • Japan
  • Chile
  • Germany
  • Team TBD

Following their Bronze Medal game appearance in Tokyo, England, Scotland and Wales will continue to compete as Team GB. These will be their first appearances on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Due to the on-going impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel restrictions worldwide, some Men’s national teams were unable to accept their invitations to compete in Canada.

In addition to the teams listed above, we are excited to feature a full Women’s 7s “Fast 4” event as part of HSBC Canada Sevens for the first time! The Women’s 7s teams that have accepted invitations to play in Vancouver and Edmonton are:

  • Canada
  • USA
  • Great Britain
  • France

The tournament schedules are still being finalized. They will include both the 12 Men’s and 4 Women’s team competitions with over 19 hours of event action across two days – and of course, there will now be two home teams to route for!

Ticket pricing for Vancouver has now been released – you can view details on the tournaments website here. A reminder that tickets go on-sale for subscription holders at 10am PT on Tuesday, August 10th and for the general public on Thursday, August 12th at 10am PT.

Edmonton tickets are already on sale and can be purchased here.

In accordance with BC’s Provincial health restrictions, BC Place will operate at approximately 50 per cent capacity in the lower bowl and suite sections. Ticket availability will be at a premium and fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets early. Should restrictions change in advance of the event in conjunction with a move to Stage 4 of the Provincial Restart Plan, further details will be shared as available.

Rugby Canada has been working closely with government health authorities and our host venues. The health and safety of players, spectators, and all involved in the events remains our top priority.

 

ABOUT HSBC CANADA SEVENS:
HSBC Canada Sevens are two-day rugby sevens tournaments featuring the world’s top men’s sevens teams. In 2021, HSBC Canada Sevens will be the first and second stops in a 6-stop world tour as part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. The first event will be hosted at BC Place in Vancouver, BC on September 18-19 with the second following on September 25-26 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Sevens rugby, a fast-paced and shorter version of traditional rugby with only seven players per side, has built a huge international audience through the success of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, which attracts large audiences in markets around the world.
